Bucharest’s public transport system is represented by the Metro, and a surface transport system run by STB , which consist in buses, trams, trolleybuses and light rail.
The subway is probably the best choice considering the crowded streets especially early in the morning or in the evening. And the map representing the lines is simple and easy to understand.
The capital subway system comprises of 4 lines of transportation, and two other under construction symbolized by the dotted lines on the map.
The most accessible points of getting a pass with student discount can be found at:
- Piața Romană Mon-Fri: 07:00 - 20:00
- Piața Unirii 1 Mon-Fri: 07:00 - 20:00, Sat: 10:30 - 17:00
- Piața Unirii 2 Mon-Fri: 07:00 - 20:00
- Grozăvești Mon-Fri: 10:30 - 17:00
Regarding the subway card, the most convenient option is getting a monthly pass with unlimited trips for 70 Lei or 35 Lei per month if you use the student discount or a weekly pass for 25 Lei. (15 minutes must pass before you can use it again). Other options are: 10 journeys for a price of 20 Lei, 2 journeys for a price of 5 Lei.

Surface public transportation
Bucharest surface public transportation comprises of buses, tramways and trolleys all belonging to the same company: STB.
If you have no bus station around, then you can use the unlimited urban card with 50 Lei per month, the price of 1 trip being 1,3 Lei. The payment can be made online as well by using Info Transport Bucharest. Also the fine for not having a valid pass or ticket is 100 Lei.

There are over 40 taxi companies in Bucharest and the price of a taxi ranges from 1.69 to 3.49 Lei/ Km.There are even smart phone apps for ordering a taxi such as Clever which is compatible with iOS and Android. Other well-known taxi companies are: Meridian Taxi, Cobalcescu and Speed Taxi.
Note: Be aware that some taxis might overcharge you. In this case, be careful to require a receipt.
